Sarah: Mine Worker & HomeVestor
Having grown up in Brisbane, Sarah and her young family moved to Central Queensland to work in the mines so they could set their family up later in life. After years of living in Moranbah and growing their family, the decision was made that it was time for them to move back down to Brisbane so their kids could start school in South East Queensland. Both parents planned to start FIFO work, still in the Central Queensland Mines, but their home base would be Brisbane.
While their plan to move back to Brisbane was taking shape, Sarah and her partner knew they didn’t have the time to travel to Brisbane each week to inspect the properties they were interested in. They didn’t have a lot of experience in the property market, and wanted to purchase a property to use as a foundation to build out a portfolio over time.
“We didn’t really know that there were investment-grade properties before starting this journey. We were wanting to buy a property and use that as equity to buy more, but we didn’t really know much about investment-grade properties or anything like that. Along the journey, we learnt so much about what makes a property investment-grade that we really didn’t know before starting out. There’s a lot to consider.”
Initially, Sarah and her family were looking to purchase in the Mount Cotton area. They wanted a decent amount of land (the larger the better), with at least 4 bedrooms, 5 if possible, in an affluent growth location. After working alongside the team at Property Navigation, and being educated on the research and data that underpins the way Property Navigation find areas of high growth, five suburbs were selected. “We were soon able to understand that by changing our choice of suburb, we were able to increase our investment opportunity quite significantly.”
The team at Property Navigation commenced the search for Sarah and her family’s new home. From dozens of potential properties that fit their buyer’s brief, about 5 were shortlisted and inspected, then sent to Sarah and her family for consideration. “The biggest benefit is the research of all the different properties and areas. We didn’t have to do or worry about any of that. That was all taken care of by Property Navigation….the inspections, pretty much everything, it’s all taken care of.”
Sarah and her family were living over 1000km away, so clear, constant and transparent communication and reporting was a key aspect to keeping them informed and reassured so they knew all of the information our team on the ground knew. “We really valued the constant contact and being able to call with questions at any time. We knew what was going on at every stage even though we weren’t able to physically view the properties. It was very smooth, especially being so far way. We knew all information at all times.”
Sarah and her family decided on the fifth property that was sourced, selected, and inspected by the Property Navigation team. “We got a beautifully renovated 5-bedroom home plus a study on an 1856 square metre block in Eden’s Landing for $30k under market value. It’s everything we wanted; all the big hitters we wanted were certainly covered. And, we know this is a solid foundational property to start building our portfolio on.”

What other happy customers say.
" The whole process was really smooth for us, we had a timeline when we wanted to buy, and we met that timeline. We started our search in September and moved into our new home in December, so the kids could start the new school year in Brisbane. It all happened in about 8 weeks. We had heaps of information on what the best areas were for us to invest in and the information that we got from the inspections was all great. There was lots of info. I would definitely refer Property Navigation to anyone I know looking to buy a property. ”
