Jacob: Mine Worker and First-time Investor
Having grown up in Brisbane, Jacob, a FIFO engineer working in the Western Australian mines, wanted to set up a ‘home base’ in the city for when he flew back from work.
After attending several open homes, Jacob could see that properties were selling quickly to cashed-up buyers. Having limited time to look around and attend inspections, he engaged Property Navigation as his buyer’s agent to locate an ideal off-market property.
Our initial conversations revealed that Jacob wanted a modern unit located in the Brisbane inner-city suburb of Kangaroo Point with two bedrooms, two bathrooms and one garage with views of the city or river.
After delving deeper into his property and life goals, we found that Jacob wanted property investing to be a key strategy in his wealth creation. With this in mind, we shifted our focus to ground-floor units, which are scarcer than typical ‘high-rise’ units. A ground-floor unit was also beneficial should elderly family members come over for an extended visit.
After discussions with our network of real estate agents, we located a potential property where the owners were in the early stages of considering selling their ground-level apartment in Kangaroo Point. We organised a viewing three weeks later, and it ticked all of the boxes. Two weeks after that, we negotiated the sale, entirely off-market as an exclusive opportunity. No other agents viewed the property.
In Jacob’s words, “Knowing that I didn’t have the time to look around and that I needed to do something off-market, a buyer’s agent seemed like the best option.
