Olivier and Pav: SMSF Investors

When Olivier and his partner decided to purchase an investment property through their self-managed super fund (SMSF), they knew the stakes were high.

“This is our retirement money; I didn’t want to mess it up. The SMSF process was complex, so I wanted expert advice.”

It was Property Navigation’s YouTube channel that initially captured their attention.

“Their videos are very detailed and comprehensive. They gave me the most information out of anything else I watched on YouTube. It was clear they have a sound strategy and know what they’re talking about. So, when it came to choosing a buyer’s agent, I was very interested to get in touch and see if it’d be a good fit.”

The couple had previously purchased a property themselves in Bellbird Park, Queensland. That experience had given them a strong appreciation for the research involved in selecting the right investment location.

“I did a lot of research myself for our first investment property and we knew people that were buying in the area. For Olivier, one of the most valuable parts of the process was being able to discuss the strategy openly with Boyd and work through the thinking behind the recommendation.

“I was happy because I could debate with Boyd and share my thoughts around what property we thought would be a good fit. My initial thinking was since it’s going to be a SMSF, I wanted something with really good cash flow as opposed to growth. But Boyd showed us we could have both, which was really cool.”

The Property Navigation team began sourcing for the couple on 26 February, and by 24 March they had signed a contract of sale.

Olivier and his partner purchased a well-presented, low-maintenance 4-bedroom, 2-bathroom house on a large 708 square metre block, situated in a highly sought-after beachside investment suburb in Queensland.

The property also included a 5m x 8m shed, plus a fully cemented side-access driveway, ideal for extra vehicles or a future granny flat.

For Olivier and his partner, the process gave them confidence that their SMSF funds were being used strategically — not just to buy a property, but to purchase an asset selected with long-term investment fundamentals in mind.
